Dinner Tonight: I did it wrong

Tonight I made...

Oh, heck with it. I've been trying to link to the recipe, but apparently Martha Stewart Omnimedia does not want people to link. That's rather shortsighted, don't you think?

It's a Martha Stewart Everyday Food recipe called Crispy Ginger-Lime Chicken Thighs. You make a paste with curry powder, grated ginger, lime juice and scallions, and spread it under the skin, then broil the chicken thighs.

It was fast, and pretty tasty, though milder than I wold like. It also created a house-ful of smoke, which did not add to the dining experience.

I think I can do this better. Especially since the new supermarket in town has really cheap chicken thighs. (And, um, everything else. Inexpensive produce, a butcher shop, cheap shrimp.fish in tanks and on ice, This is a fine, fine addition to town. Also, shopping there will mean I have to learn some practical Spanish.)

Don't know if you ever catch Nigella Lawson on TV, but I agree with her - and with you - chicken thighs are ever so much better than those breasts that just dry out - nothing funny intended here!

Sounds good though. I have chicken and lime and spring onions (I think they are scallions) and have been putting off cooking as it is so hot but actually I think I could face that combination. I hope there's some ginger in the freezer! But also - do you have the address of Cheryl Lawson's blog. I'd love to follow someone else from dowmumder but I can't find her on Google

Fran wants to know what supermarket you refer to in Laurel.

She'll know just where it is - it's the new Panam which is where the Hancock Fabrics used to be. If that doesn't ring a bell, it's on Rt 1 just south of 198, between the paint store and the Office Depot, same shopping center as the health food store and the sewing machine repair guy.

It's excellent chaos - they play mexican pop videos on giant flat-screens on the ceiling. Ian danced in the aisles. Little English spoken. Lots of gesturing. Live lobsters. With a $10 minimum, they take credit/debit cards. No bakery on premises, but baked good delivered daily. It makes the Safeway seem SO BORING.

On the other hand, the ground beef I got was a little gristly - I guess it was cheap for a reason.

Thanks, Bets. You're right - I know exactly where it is. :) The chicken thighs recipe sounds great! Someday, when I finally get to spend an evening at home again, I'm going to make that. Mac will love it. Uh... not the smoke....the chicken & "pesto"..... Think I'll go to the grocery first and practice my rusty Spanish..... ;)

Yeah, I did not follow the recipe exactly, so when it came out kind of bland, I figure I am to blame and not the recipe. Or maybe ginger loses some of its zing in the freezer for a long time. Or maybe it was those weird non-juicy limes. (Which I got at that market! So if you buy limes -there or anywhere - dig around for some heavy, squishy ones.)
